Carl and Gloria's 24-day Cruise
To the San Juan Islands
and the British Columbia Gulf Islands

2004 SUMMER CRUISE

This year we decided to not cruise beyond Nanaimo, British Columbia. We cruised from the Tacoma Narrows Marina and got as far as Silva Bay on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. The round-trip cruising distance was 465 nautical miles (535 land miles) and we took some 432 photos. The winds were such at Silvia Bay that we elected not to go out into the Strait of Geogia to get to Nanaimo, instead electing to stay in the sheltered inside waters of the Gulf Islands. Overnight stops included Langley Boat Harbor on Whidby Island, Cornet Bay at Deception Pass State Park, Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham, Matia Island in the San Juan Group, Prevost Harbor Marine State Park on Stuart Island, Roche Harbor on San Juan Island, Blakely Island Marina, Anacortes Cap Sante Marina, Port of Everett, Poulsbo on Liberty Bay, and Blake Island Marine State Park near Seattle.

Once into British Columbia, Canada, we overnighted at Conover Cove on Wallace Island, Silva Bay Marina on Gabriola Island, Page Point Inn at Ladysmith, Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island, Maple Bay Marina on Vancouver Island, Montague Harbour on Galiano Island, Port Browning Marina on North Pender Island, Lyall Harbour on Saturna Island, Ganges on Stitlespring Island, and Port of Sidney Marina on Vancouver Island. In total, we stayed at 21 different places (some twice).

Our only mishap during the cruise was getting a crab trap line tangled around the prop in Roche Harbor. It was low tide and the floating line from the crab trap had floated out a good distance from the float, but not visible because it was just below the surface. We had to get a diver to remove the yellow polypropylene line from the shaft.
