Rian BuchananMy name is Rian. I am in the process of purchasing a 1979 CAH Corsair with cuddy cabin in Juneau, Alaska. The M. V. Why Knot. It will be used as a full time liveaboard. I've scoured your site and must say it's been an invaluable source of information. I have located your maintenance spread sheet, but I was wondering if you had a more succinct schedule for planned maintenance. Maybe even a checklist you work off of. I find the ability to get vessel specific information very helpful. Thank you for your website. Rian Buchanan Thanks for the quick response. Once I have everything finalized I'll get a good photo for the site! Right now I only have iPhone pictures. I'm looking forward to getting into things. For now, here's a link to the ad: https://juneau.craigslist.org/boa/5758861895.html Rian On Sep 28, 2016, 09:09 -0700, CARL TENNING wrote: Hi Rian, Seems like I saw the "Why Knot" at one time, and if I did I would have taken a photo of it. But I can't find such a photo anywhere. I probably saw it in Juneau. Would you like to place a photo on the Cruise-a-Home Owners Page? Anyway, the only planned maintenance I had was to change engine oil every 100 hours, replace the zincs every year or so, and maintain the seal between the upper deck and the sides of the cabin. Everything else was on condition. Regards, Carl Tenning On 9/27/2016 10:51 PM, Rianrachel Buchanan wrote: Hi, My name is Rian. A 1979 Corsair 40 with Cuddy Cabin. My Buddy and I went down and did some work/upgrades on it. We installed: Nature's Head Composting Toilet Avanti Washer and Dryer and then the rest was safety stuff like GFCI plugs and high water alarms. We did a seaworthy test and she passed. Thanks, Rian Buchanan On Wed, Sep 28, 2016 at 9:23 AM, Rianrachel Buchanan wrote: Thanks for the quick response. Once I have everything finalized I'll get a good photo for the site! So he and his new wife will live aboard full time there in Juneau. There's other things I'd like to do with it. But most need either money or to get her out of the water for a few days. You may have seen her. The original owners were a trades couple. A plumber and an electrician. They would cruise all around SE Alaska and pick up contracts in the different costal communities. Up until 4 years ago, when they sold to the couple I bought it from. They were a professional couple working in Juneau and they lived aboard full time for the 4 years. They made a bunch of upgrades to the insulation, windows, flooring, lighting (all of it is LED now), added a Toyo stove and fixed some structural rot stuff, but only put about 15 hours on the engines. It's got the dual Volvo Penta Deisles in it. It has some delamination on a few of the deviders underneath that I'll have to work on eventually and I need to put seacocks on all of the through hulls. Those are the big things. I'm very excited about getting some stuff done, it's full of potential and getting her out and about. But it was probably sold by Troy Erwin who was, I think, the only CAH dealer in AK. For some reason, CAH's were not generally successful with the Volvo diesels. Most of them were re-engined as time went by. Some owners thought the engine angle required by the V-drive configuration messed up the lubrication scheme. Don't know. Troy was one of the few that kept the Volvos, but when he sold that boat to a fellow in BYC (I guess I kinda brokered that deal), that owner eventually pulled the Volvos and put in little 4-cylinder Isuzu diesels. Not sure it went very fast with the Isuzus , but they were sure cute little buggers. Rian mentioned some dry-rot in the bulkheads. As you may remember, I had some rot in what I called my No. 2, 3, and 5 bulkheads over the 30+ years I owned Troob. With some bending, twisting and swearing, you could get at the # 2 and 3 bulkheads, but there was no access to #5 (between the aft fuel tank and the poop tank), and no clearance between those tanks and the bulkhead. I couldn't repair that one until I replaced the fuel tanks. You might pass that along to Rian. Laurie's mom had a stroke three days before we reached our Arizona destination last month. Laurie flew back for a week, but it doesn't look like her mom is going to recover sufficiently to ever get back into her apartment. So, we're enroute back, most likely for the winter. Having sneaked over Siskiou pass today before the high winds and big rainstorm forecast for tonight and tomorrow, we were surprised to find on the Oregon Hiways website that Portland south to Eugene are gridlocked by snow tonight. What happened to the rain??? If you don't hear further from us, please have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Dean Hi Carl, I'm getting a diver to go down and check the zincs, but I want to buy new zincs first. Turns out there a bunch of different zincs out there. I was wondering if you know the part numbers or models of zincs that are used on the 40' Cruise-A-Homes. Thanks, Rian Buchanan On Tue, Dec 13, 2016 at 1:10 PM, CARL TENNING wrote: Got it. Done.
